Health Professionals Services Program

The EMSRB offers a service for registered or certified EMS personnel who have substance abuse problems or physical or mental illnesses that interfere with their ability to practice safely. The Health Professionals Services Program (HPSP) is a confidential program that monitors licensed health professionals (including first responders, EMTs and paramedics). Individuals may self refer to the program, a third party may refer them, or the EMSRB may order them to participate in HPSP as a condition of maintaining eligibility for certification. The cost of the program is borne by the EMSRB, with any required drug screens to be paid by the individual. Minnesota is one of only four states nationwide to offer such a service to its EMS personnel.
